Heil headset Pro Set

The Heil Sound Pro Set is a lightweight, versatile boom mic/headset designed for comfort, durability, and, above all, performance. The earpieces are full sized, with heavily-stuffed cushions for operator comfort during long operating stints. The ear pad covers are removable, for washing, and replacement pads are also available (see the "Parts" page).

Besides sealing out noise passively, the Pro Set now includes Heil Sound's exclusive phase reversal technology, which allows the user to "move" the incoming signal by engaging the phase-reversal switch; this creates a unique spatial widening sound that can, in some situations, significantly improve copy in a tough DX pile-up.

The earphone speakers in the Pro Set Series are 200-Ohm devices, with a -3 dB point at 8000 Hz. This combination reduces a lot of the hiss found in receiver audio stages. These speakers exhibit medium sensitivity, but they are easily driven by most rigs if you turn the AF Gain control up to about 2 o'clock.

The Pro Set is available in three versions: the Pro Set 4 (PS 4) is supplied with the HC-4 "DX Dream Machine" element, with an aggressive low-frequency cut-off and high emphasis at 2000 Hz, for excellent pile-up "punch."

The Pro Set iC (PS iC) utilizes the Heil Sound "iC" condenser element specially designed by Heil Sound for compatibility with the low gain found on many Icom transceivers' mic amp stages. The PS iC is also shipped with the AD-1 iC adapter cable (the PS 4 requires an optional adapter cable so as to match the Pro Set to your transceiver's mic jack requirements).

Pro Set 6 is delivered with the HC-6 element. Designed for commercial broadcast applications, the -3dB points are fixed at 100 Hz and 12 kHz with sensitivity of -57 dB at 600 ohms output impedance (centered at 1kHz.)

Each Pro Set is equipped with a windscreen for the microphone. The windscreen does not affect the frequency response of the microphone, and it is highly effective in minimizing breath blast while you're speaking.

Adapters for different transceivers are found as accessories. See table to help in finding the right adapter for your radio. The speakers in the Pro-Set series are 200 ohms and -3 dB point at 8 kHz. This reduces the hiss and noise of amateur radio receivers. The Pro-Set exhibits medium efficiency and will require 4 to 5 dB more drive than entertainment style headphones, but most transceivers have no problem driving these headphones with the AF gain set at about 2 o’clock. The microphone audio for the Pro-Set series terminates into a 1/8” male plug while the head phone terminates into a 1/4” stereo plug.
